The roots of acupuncture are based on 4000 years of experience by Chinese physicians. Documentation dated approximately 1600 BC reveals that sharpened bamboo tips and bronze needles were used for the treatment. The first written publication is: "Innere Klassiker des Gelben Fürsten“(= Internal Classics of the Yellow Prince), a guidance manual for Chinese medicine, dated approx. 300 BC, which documents the wisdom of this healing art.

Today, acupuncture enriches therapy methods across all cultural borders, including “Western Medicine”. Experts of the World Health Organisation (WHO) have officially recommended acupuncture therapy for more than 40 ailments since 1979.  Acupuncture has become indispensible for pain therapy and chronic ailments.

With appropriate utilisation, acupuncture has virtually no side effects. The specially-designed, bevelled, sterile and disposable acupuncture-needles

ensure a pain free and gentle therapy and eliminate the chances of contracting disease.

This describes the “adjustment” of vertebras and joints (of course the joints, - the spine also features numerous joints – are not totally dislocated and are not actually next to each other”; and a nerve is also not literally “pinched”; but in many cases the joints have shifted and locked in to a wrong position, which results in the dilation of the articular capsule and thus, often causes localised and radiating pain, especially in the spinal area). Many times you will notice that you have “dislocated” something by a sudden onset of pain, i.e. while showering or bending over.

Caution: There are multiple causes for sudden acute onsets of pain; this symptom is only an indicator! If, and how manual therapy can be implemented in your case should be discussed after a manual-therapeutically examination.

Arthritis: When you have osteoarthritis of the knee the joint fluid may lose its ability to protect the joint. Smooth cartilage that normally protects the ends of the knee bones may lose its cushioning effect or become pitted and frayed. Large areas of cartilage may even wear away completely, so the bones scrape painfully over each other. Cartilage breakdown may cause the joint to lose its shape, and the bone ends may thicken and form bony spurs. Fragments of bone or cartilage may float in the joint space, causing further damage and pain.

Therapy: Durolane is a single injection treatment to relieve the pain of knee or hip Osteoarthritis. It is based upon a natural, safe and proven technology called NASHA (stabilised hyaluronic acid). Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring molecule that provides the lubrication and cushioning in a normal joint.

Durolane is transparent gel which contains high levels of HA (Hyaluronic Acid) . It is injected into joints affected by osteoarthritis to relieve pain, restore lubrication and cushioning which improves joint function and helps to restore quality of life. The stabilised form of HA in Durolane is known as NASHA .

The patented NASHA hyalauronic acid stabilisation process enables Durolane to resist breakdown and have a longer-lasting effect than all other hyaluronic acid preparations. Durolane also contains high levels of concentrated HA. This extends the half life of Durolane considerably whereas the HA in other hyaluronic acid products disappears within a few days after the injection.

Results: This is the main reason why you will require only a single injection of Durolane whereas other products need several injections. Durolane contains high levels of concentrated Hyaluronic acid (HA) which mimics the effects of natural HA. It restores the levels of HA which are naturally diminished during the progression of Osteoarthritis. HA is known to control pain and as it possesses visco-elastic properties it can provide cushioning and shock absorption within the joint. HA is also known to help to maintain the normal fluid balance in a joint and help to restore normal joint function.Intra-articular hyaluronic acid offers comparable pain relief to pain-relieving drug therapy or injection of corticosteroids, with a longer duration of action.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has developed into a new groundbreaking therapy-form in the orthopaedic field during the past years. Patients who have exhausted all conservative therapy options may be healed with the help of ultrahigh-energetic sound waves. Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive therapy, which eliminates the usual stress associated with surgery for the patient; in particular, surgical scarring or post-operative danger of infection!

ESWT consists of a very broad energy spectrum, which enables the physician to treat the respective illness optimally. Shockwaves are acoustic sound waves that are bundled in a specific focal point (focus), where they develop their effectiveness.  Shockwaves have been used for the fragmentation of kidney stones for many years and have produced excellent results. ESTW is always administered on an out-patient basis. It takes approximately 30 minutes. Between 500 and 2000 shock waves are administered per treatment. The location is determined by a C-arm X-ray unit to ensure the precise treatment of the diseased area.
